Dunroamin

Founded by C.A. (Jimmy) and Havelon Gearish, former actors and musicians on the traveling Chautauqua circuit, Camp Dunroamin was born from their decision to finally settle down in Fayetteville—literally declaring they were "done roaming." From the late 1930s to the mid-1960s, this rustic retreat constructed of native stone and wood served as a beloved summer haven, dedicating four weeks to boys and another four weeks to girls. Under the creative guidance of the Gearishes, campers spent their days immersed in swimming, outdoor adventures, games and arts and crafts, while activities often featured music and performance, reflecting the owners' theatrical roots. Today, the historic site remains beautifully preserved in its original location, having transitioned from a bustling youth camp into a private residence and event venue that keeps the spirit of those golden summers alive.
